The Secret
I was talking to a co-worker today, and he started talking about “The Secret.” Seemed to be an interesting subject, and evidently it was on Oprah…. so you know that means its good. So he was explaining that the universe has some law of attraction, and that you can think things into existence. Sounds cool, but of course, I am skeptical. He says there is a DVD that explains all of this (www.thesecret.tv).
Well, I have not checked out this site yet, but I figure I’d share it. I figure if i think its a load of BS, then I would never write about it, and potentially deprive you of the opportunity to check it out for yourself.
From what he says, if you think positively, and ask the universe for things, then you will get them. He says he often imagines himself getting a good parking space before he gets somewhere. He then imagines the joy of finding that perfect space. Then when he gets to his destination, there is the space, just for him.
I jokingly mentioned that this reminded me of a Tales from the Crypt episode where you can get anything you want, but the price you pay may not be worth it. Like if you want a millon bucks, you may get it, but it may be a life insurance payout of someone you love. Now like I said, I am skeptical, but seeing his enthusiasm, I could see this was something he was serious about, so I figured I may look into it.
I must admit, it seems a lot like faith in most organized religions, and there are countless numbers of people who wholeheartedly believe in that, so maybe there is something to it. If you know anything about it, please share. I must admit, it has peeked my interest.
1 commentKia, not as bad as I thought
So I have a Kia for a rental car. At first, I was like, “eew, I’m gonna get Kia on me.” But its really not that bad. Don’t get me wrong, I am not about to go and trade in my car for a Kia, but as a rental for a little while, not too bad. It could be worse, it could be a Chevy Aveo. You know they aren’t real cars, Chevrolet didn’t even give they their whole name.
The Kia has power windows, locks, etc., keyless entry, even steering wheel controls for the radio. Not too bad for a Kia. Unfortunately, you wont see any pictures of it on here, though. I don’t wanna get Kia all over my blog.

Sitting at a light waiting to make a right-hand turn. I am facing south watching traffic pass me coming both from the east and west. So here comes a guy headed east who wants to make a left-hand turn… sure he has a green, but so does the traffic coming in the opposite direction. As this is going on, I am thinking, “I wish the light would hurry up and turn, I wanna make my turn. Look this guy, making his turn, hope he makes it between those cars. Damn, he isn’t gonna make it. WOW, I just saw an accident! Oh shit, the car is coming at me! OH SHIT!”
Then the car making the left (basically into oncoming traffic) was pushed into my car from the impact of the first crash. All I saw was a dull silver ‘91 Camry coming at me. It was like everything was in slow motion… “O H S H I T !”
Fortunately, neither me nor my girlfriend were hurt… nor anyone else involved in the accident. We were all able to walk away. No airbags, no injuries… except my car. Now I get to deal with the insurance company. Wish me luck…
Imagine that, getting hit from the side while sitting still at a stop light. Thats like getting fired on your day off… its just not right.

Ultra-High Performance Tires vs. Snow
Several years ago, I decided to upgrade the tires on my car when it was time to replace them. After doing a reasonable amount of research, I settled on the Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires. I wanted tires that performed better than my stock Michelins, but I wanted to be able to drive in winter weather as well. The tires I found were are supposed to be rated as all-season tires. While I did not believe they would perform like I was driving a Hummer in Switzerland, I did expect to be able to drive it. WRONG!
I recently snowed here… well, snow, sleet, and freezing rain… and our street was not plowed. Being the dedicated employee I am, I decided to try to make it in to work anyway. Well even though my car is FWD, and I have these wonderful all-season ultra-high performance tires, all I did was make a big mess.
Don’t get me wrong, these tires are great in dry and even wet conditions, but in anything more than an inch or two of snow or ice, you might as well park it.
This is the mess I made in front of the house.

There is a guy down the street with a Subaru Impreza STi… he has summer-only tires on there (I assume) and even with AWD, he was just spinnin’. Al least I am not the only one stuck. Be safe out there.

Harvard announced undergraduate students from low-income families will not have to pay tuition. Too bad I already have a degree… Pass this info on to anyone who may be able to benefit.

No commentsLite Brite
I didn’t say anything about this the first time, but this is just ridiculous. Now the head of the Cartoon Network has resigned. I think consequences from the Cartoon Network publicity stunt have just gone too far. When it was first reported, the news media made it seem to be a much more ominous situation than it turned out to be. Granted, I was not there, nor do I know what those on the scene experienced, but I find it difficult to believe that the anonymous placement of 5 Lite Brite’s on buildings warranted the shut down of a whole city. The reports described them as “suspicious packages,” which I know realize is a very vague term that triggers fear and automatic assumed terrorist ties among the general population. I expected something in a box or bag, perhaps something wrapped in butcher paper, but not a children’s toy. Heaven forbid had they used a Tickle Me Elmo, all of Massachusetts may have shut down.
Granted, these are times of heightened security, but its sad to see when the threat of terrorism interferes with out daily lives. When we change the way we live to the point where we are paranoid of everything happening around us, the terrorists win. How could a lite brite have gone so wrong?
